Join Davison Travelers on January 16th as we head down to the Detroit Auto Show.  Detroit was the birthplace of the American Automotive Industry and the celebration of this industry started with the very first Detroit Auto Show back in 1907 at a beer garden near the Belle Isle Bridge, inspired by early European auto shows.    In 1989 it became known as the  North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) to match its international status before returning to the Detroit Auto Show in 2025.  Enjoy over 40 major automotive brands, featuring interactive floor displays from global makers and domestic favorites.  Also you will enjoy test track experiences and other special attractions.  After the Auto Show, we’ll head to where the Original Buddy’s Pizza first started and Detroit’s original Detroit Style Pizza.

The Auto Industry shaped this iconic pizza.  In 1946, August “Gus” Guerra and employee Concetta “Connie” Piccinato looked for heavy-duty baking vessels to create a thick, Sicilian-style pizza at their neighborhood tavern, Buddy’s Rendezvous, on Detroit’s Eastside. Because food-grade rectangular cake pans did not exist at the time, they repurposed industrial “blue steel” utility trays obtained from local automotive plants.  We’re not done yet.  Our final stop will take us to Sander’s Chocolate Factory in Clinton Township.  You can take home a Detroit original bumpy cake or a different kind of chocolate treat to have a sweet ending to an amazing day.

Itinerary:
8:15 AM – Pick-up at Meijer, Davison – Lot H
10:00 AM to 12:45 PM – Huntington Place (Detroit Auto Show)
1:00 PM to 2:30 PM – The Original Buddy’s Pizza Location (lunch included in price)
3:00 PM to 3:30 PM – Sander’s Chocolate Factory (Get your Bumpy Cake or a different tasty treat)
4:45 PM – Return to Davison, MI
