Sign-up on the interest list below…

Join Davison Travelers for a two day trip to Ohio’s Amish Country in Holmes County. Our first stop will take us to the 55,000 square foot indoor Walnut Creek Marketplace, where there’s over 60 merchants that offer an ever changing inventory of unique goods and services. Merchants offer everything from handcrafted Amish furniture and quilts to refurbished antique drill bits and gas cans, clothing, and jewelry. Jerky, German-roasted nuts and kettle-roasted potato chips also are part of the mix. Breakfast and lunch prepared by an Amish couple are available in the cafeteria and another Amish cook does the baking.

After you enjoy your lunch and shopping it’s off to Dover, OH and a visit to the Ernest Warther Museum and Gardens. Born in 1885 to Swiss immigrant parents, Ernest “Mooney” Warther began his carving legacy at the age of 5. His focus was the evolution of the steam engine, sculpting engines spanning the time periods from late B.C. to the introduction of diesel engines in the mid-1900s. Tour the gallery spaces with over 100 pieces in the collection and learn about the awe-inspiring life of Ernest Warther. Explore the Warther family residence, Swiss-styled gardens, and Frieda Warther’s collection of over 73,000 buttons.

On the way to check-in to the hotel, we’ll make a stop at the World’s Largest Cuckoo Clock in Sugarcreek. After check-in, we’ll head on over to the grandson of Earnest “Mooney'” Warther, David Warther Carving Museum and Workshop. You will enjoy a tour and dinner led my David himself!

A special evening is planned where David and his wife Maryruth are hosts for a special evening with Carver Dave as your guide. Halfway through the tour the group will enter additional museum exhibit rooms that have been set up for an elegant candlelit dinner with linens, soft music and a delicious meal. After the dinner David opens with question-and-answer time. He tells a few interesting stories and then continues with the tour. From his workshop, he shows carving tools and techniques. The evening concludes with time for shopping in the gift shop where Warther knives and other locally made items are for sale. This is more than a museum tour and a meal. This is an evening of enjoyment with David & Maryruth as your hosts with exceptional food and an entertaining aura. There is an ambiance to this evening that makes it a memorable experience for everyone.

The next day, we have a full day planned with our step on guided tour of the Amish backroads. Everyone will get a brown bag and will get a gift at selected stops. There will be several stops at local Amish artisans and shops along with a delicious Thresher’s Amish Family Style luncheon. We will conclude the day with some free time in downtown Berlin before we head home.
